The new CBT benchmark, myTrailhead

Why Salesforce myTrailhead Will Make You Question CBTs

Learning should be more fun and engaging than the standard CBT

Does your company require taking CBTs in order to learn new skills or confirm understanding of policy or other programs? Are the CBTs enjoyable to take? I didn’t think so.

I attended Dreamforce 2017 (#DF17) last week and thought I’d recap a simple but very exciting announcement from Salesforce that leapfrogs the typical CBT concept and that’s myTrailhead.

Before I tell you what myTrailhead is it’s important to know what Trailhead is. Trailhead is a learning program that Salesforce has created to get users to learn and adopt their products and services in a fun and competitive way. At certain completed stages of learning, users acquire a badge, like they would in Cub Scouts or Girl Scouts. Those who are active and successful participants in this learning program are called Trailblazers.

Getting started as a Trailblazer is free. To learn more I’d recommend reading the Salesforce blog article 4 Best Practices for Learning on Trailhead” to learn more.

At Dreamforce last week, Salesforce announced myTrailhead which is a training and education community platform companies can use to configure their own training within their company – aligning it to specific learning journeys and goals no matter what the function.

MyTrailhead uses the same gamification and learning format as Trailhead for companies to great their own badges or other learning achievement recognition if so desired. All of this learning is tied into an employees’ Salesforce record to track progress towards goals assigned to their job function.

myTrailhead has five main features

1. Trail Maker: the tool that allows companies to create their own training or learning content for their employees. Trail Maker also will let a company use pre-curated library of public Trailhead content in addition to their own.

2. Trailhead Profile: Displays an employee’s skills and expertise accomplished through the myTrailhead learning program. The profile lists badges earned points accumulated and skills learned.

3. Trail Mixer: There will be many instances when the corporate training which is placed into my Trailhead isn’t enough for specific teams. Trail Mixer allows employees to build and share a collection of custom learning paths called Trailmixes.

4. Trail Tracker: The tool that tracks an individual or team progress and performance using gamified leaderboards and enables managers to assign and track personalized learning across their organization.

5. Trail Checker: Similar to CBT tests, the Trail Checker allows companies to build interactive learning assessments—including quizzes and hands-on challenges.
